"We observed that, the file is part of the Renamer245 freeware setup.
It has the capability to rename system files, which results in the operating system failure.
Hence detection is intended on the file."

Me:
"note: Renamer starts without permission to rename system files.
It gives error 75: path/file access error."

Support from Microsoft:
"As previously discussed, if the software is deemed malicious,
we cannot alter the detection logic,
as mass renaming of files is categorized as malicious by EDR systems.

In this instance, Defender AV identified the software as malicious
because our detection logic is already updated to recognize such malware."

Me:
"You have blocked the direct download for Renamer by EatMe from the internet.
You have destroyed my biggest project in my life.
Microsoft PowerToys PowerRename is similar."

Thank you for 15 years of Renamer by EatMe use and the many 5/5 and 4/5 star rewards.

Microsoft Defender now makes it impossible to download, calls it whatever they like, deletes setup.
